This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as designers or design paraprofessionals who support professional engineers. They perform tasks involving a high level of autonomy and requiring the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of equipment/roles/techniques for themselves and others. They are required to develop site specific work designs to ensure the implementation of the client’s site requirements. They demonstrate the application of a broad range of technical, managerial, coordination and planning skills.

Who can enrol
Target group for this qualification will be applicants over the age of 18 who wish to enter civil/structural draftsperson, civil/structural designer para-professional, civil construction site officer, civil construction site manager, civil designer and civil technical assistant in the civil construction industry.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites required to enter the RII50520 – Diploma of Civil Construction Design course. However, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

English Language Requirement
Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or PTE score of 47 or Other* English Language Test Score.

Note:
In the absence of formal English qualifications Winslow College may proffer English Placement Test.

Academic Requirement
No prior academic requirements apply for this qualification; however, Winslow College requires successful completion of Australian Equivalent Year 12 qualification or higher.

Age Requirement
All applicants must be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to the course.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy Requirement
Applicants will be required to undertake a LLN and Digital Literacy test to identify their capabilities prior to signing the Letter of Offer (LOO). The outcome enables the trainers and Student Support Staff to identify the learning and digital needs and make provisions for additional academic support where required.

Course Specific Requirement
The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety steel boots, high vest, gloves, and hard hat is mandatory during site visits. Details regarding PPE requirements will be provided during Orientation. Students are responsible for obtaining and wearing the required gear.

Applicants should have proficiency in digital literacy and MS Office skills (Word, Excel and Power Point). Applicants should be in possession of their personal computer (the minimum configuration should be Intel Core i3 (sixth generation or newer) or equivalent. Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional x64, Memory: 4 GB RAM, Storage: 120 GB internal storage).

Pathways into the qualification
Individuals may enter RII50520 – Diploma of Civil Construction Design with limited or no vocational experience and without a lower-level qualification.
Recommended Pathways from the qualification
After achieving RII50520 – Diploma of Civil Construction Design qualification, individuals could progress to RII60520 – Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design, or other relevant qualifications or Higher Education courses in Civil Engineering.

Assessments
Assessment will usually commence in the session following delivery. As this is a competency-based program, assessment continues throughout the program until the participant either achieves competency in the assessment tasks or a further training need is identified and addressed. Students will be required to perform in a range of assessment tasks.
Course Credit (CT / RPL)
Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. The recognition of prior learning (RPL) pathway is appropriate for candidates who have previously attained skills and knowledge from outside the formal education and training system and which includes work and life experience. Students may apply for RPL or Credit transfers for any unit in which they can successfully demonstrate competency.
