This is a trade qualification for carpenters in residential and commercial workplaces. It includes setting out, manufacturing, constructing, assembling, installing and repairing products made using timber and non-timber materials.
Occupational titles may include:
- Carpenter – Commercial
- Carpenter – Formwork
- Carpenter – Residential
State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.

Who can enrol
Target group for this program will be students over the age of 18 including mature aged clients who wish to pursue a career in carpentry or further develop or formalise their skills in a variety of tasks relating to housing and commercial construction.
The target learner may also be the ones seeking a pathway to a higher-level qualification in construction industry.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites required to enter the CPC30220 – Certificate III in Carpentry course. However, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

English Language Requirement
Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or PTE score of 47 or Other* English Language Test Score.

In the absence of formal English qualifications Winslow College may proffer English Placement Test.

Academic Requirement
No prior academic requirements apply for this qualification; however, Winslow College requires successful completion of Australian Equivalent Year 12 qualification or higher.

Age Requirement
All applicants must be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to the course.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy Requirement
Applicants will be required to undertake a LLN and Digital Literacy test to identify their capabilities prior to signing the Letter of Offer (LOO). The outcome enables the trainers and Student Support Staff to identify the learning and digital needs and make provisions for additional academic support where required.

Course Specific Requirement
Due to the physical and practical nature of this course, students must be physically able to perform assessment tasks in a Carpentry workshop and/or simulated environment. Therefore, students enrolling in this course is required to undertake a Pre-Course Physical Examination during Orientation. This assessment assists trainers and Student Support Staff in identifying any physical requirements and in providing appropriate support to ensure safe and successful participation in the course.

Applicants should have proficiency in digital literacy and MS Office skills (Word, Excel and Power Point). Applicants should be in possession of their personal computer (the minimum configuration should be Intel Core i3 (sixth generation or newer) or equivalent. Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional x64, Memory: 4 GB RAM, Storage: 120 GB internal storage).

Pathways into the qualification
Individuals may enter CPC30220 – Certificate III in Carpentry with limited or no vocational experience and without a lower-level qualification.
Recommended Pathways from the qualification
After achieving CPC30220 – Certificate III in Carpentry, individuals could progress to Certificate IV Qualifications or Higher Education courses in Civil Engineering.

Assessments
Assessment will usually commence in the session following delivery. As this is a competency-based program, assessment continues throughout the program until the participant either achieves competency in the assessment tasks or a further training need is identified and addressed. Students will be required to perform in a range of assessment tasks.
Course Credit (CT / RPL)
Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. The recognition of prior learning (RPL) pathway is appropriate for candidates who have previously attained skills and knowledge from outside the formal education and training system and which includes work and life experience. Students may apply for RPL or Credit transfers for any unit in which they can successfully demonstrate competency.
