Workers with this qualification have tradesperson-level skills in the manufacture and/or installation of products, including furniture and cabinetry, made from timber and other materials.
They have core skills in tool use, measuring, drawing (including computer-aided design), interpreting work documentation, preparing cutting lists, communication, teamwork, and safe and environmentally sustainable work practices. They may have specialised skills in wood machining, cabinet and furniture making, kitchen and bathroom construction and installation, marine cabinetry, coopering or drafting.
Work is in a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader activities involving established routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures. Individuals collaborate with others to achieve quality outcomes and take responsibility for their own work. They may have some limited responsibility for the work of others.
Kitchen and bathroom installers must be licensed in some states, and induction training is required for those working on construction sites.

Who can enrol
Target group for this program will be students over the age of 18 including mature aged clients who wish to pursue a career in building and construction industry, cabinet making and timber technology industry.
The target learner may also be the ones seeking a pathway to a higher-level qualification in construction industry.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites required to enter the MSF30322 – Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology course. However, applicants must meet the following entry requirements

Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or PTE score of 47 or Other* English Language Test Score.

Academic Requirement

Age Requirement
All applicants must be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to the course.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy Requirement
Applicants will be required to undertake a LLN and Digital Literacy test to identify their capabilities prior to signing the Letter of Offer (LOO). The outcome enables the trainers and Student Support Staff to identify the learning and digital needs and make provisions for additional academic support where required.

Course Specific Requirement
Due to the physical and practical nature of this course, students must be physically able to perform assessment tasks in a Cabinet Making and Timber Technology workshop and/or simulated environment. Therefore, students enrolling in this course is required to undertake a Pre-Course Physical Examination during Orientation. This assessment assists trainers and Student Support Staff in identifying any physical requirements and in providing appropriate support to ensure safe and successful participation in the course.

Applicants should have proficiency in digital literacy and MS Office skills (Word, Excel and Power Point). Applicants should be in possession of their personal computer (the minimum configuration should be Intel Core i3 (sixth generation or newer) or equivalent. Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional x64, Memory: 4 GB RAM, Storage: 120 GB internal storage).

After achieving MSF30322 – Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology, individuals could progress to MSF40222 – Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Manufacturing, or other relevant qualifications or Higher Education courses in Civil Engineering.

Assessments
Assessment will usually commence in the session following delivery. As this is a competency-based program, assessment continues throughout the program until the participant either achieves competency in the assessment tasks or a further training need is identified and addressed. Students will be required to perform in a range of assessment tasks.
Course Credit (CT / RPL)
Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. The recognition of prior learning (RPL) pathway is appropriate for candidates who have previously attained skills and knowledge from outside the formal education and training system and which includes work and life experience. Students may apply for RPL or Credit transfers for any unit in which they can successfully demonstrate competency.
